[Resolved] Quick Kernel Update

We’ve updated the CloudLinux kernel on our shared and reseller servers. When a new kernel is installed, it requires a quick reboot, so there was a small downtime of 2 minutes.

The new kernel fixes several internal limits and was applied at a time we see very little traffic to our servers (3AM).

[Resolved] Spectrum House Power Systems Maintenance

We have been informed this afternoon of planned maintenance to the power systems at Spectrum House.

Date: 02/10/2010
Time: 00:00 – 08:00 (UK Time)
Downtime: < 8 Hours

Explanation
During the installation of an additional 500kva UPS to the datacentre, engineers discovered a fault with the panel which meant the additional UPS could not be connected. To repair this fault the electricity needs to be isolated from the panel, as engineers cannot work on the panel while it is live for safety reasons.

The manufacturer of the panel, Schneider, is sending a team of engineers to repair the panel so that it can accept the fourth 500kva UPS.

Downtime
Unfortunately we’ve been informed that this maintenance will cause approximately 8 hours of downtime. We have been instructed to shut the server down at around 00:00, then it will be started back up as soon as the maintenance is completed.
